2018/19 DBBL Mid-Season Report
In the other league where I do this I also mention who the best FAB guy was. Since we do that here I will carry that over to this league as well
Top FAB Signing of the seaosn: Kyle Lowry (TOR-PG) VTB
Honorable Mentions: Serge Ibaka (TOR-PF) SBS, Danilo Gallinari (LAC-SF) LIK, JaVale McGee (LAL-C) TW
1. VT Breakers (58-22-1) :
Overview : What can I say about this team, they have been the most dominate team over the course of the season, still not losing a single weekly matchup and pulling out to a 6 game lead on second place in the league. This team is led by PG13 and KAT who are both top 5 on PR, and a supporting cast of Lowry, Butler, Wall, and Lamb in the top 50. This team is loaded and at the midseason point are the favorites to win the first ever DBBL title. His team leads the league in about half the categories, and the rest outside of FG% and FT% he is top 3.
For Rest of the Season : Look to improve the shooting percentages and lower the TOs somehow either through trade or FAB, as those may be the down fall of his team later against some of the other top teams. For now though, continue to be the dominating force they are and make small tweaks as to not throw off the team he has now.
Buyer/Seller : Buyer for better shooting % players
Predicted Finish : DBBL Champion
2. Vermont Supersonics (52-28-1) :
Overview : The Supersonics got off to a mildly slow start losing the first two week 4-5 both weeks, but after that he has gone seven weeks unbeaten and is easily the hottest team in the league, gaining ground on Breakers over the last few weeks. His team is very loaded as well, led by KD and Kyrie, backed up by DeRozan and surprise performer Justin Holiday. He has a balanced team in the top half and top 5 in most categories across the board.
For Rest of the Season : Keep the hot streak going, find some rebounds and blocks to help with those two categories and eliminate some holes on his team, but other than that just keep doing what you have been doing
Buyer/Seller : Buyer for a big man to get rebounds and blocks
Predicted Finish : Loser in the second round
3. New England High Tide (45-34-2) :
Overview : NE has had a good season to date, but has hit a little bit of a rough patch the last few weeks losing 3 of the last 5 weeks. The weeks he has won have all been by a good margin which has put him in third place in the league to this point. With two of the top 5 players in the league this season they have the top end ability to stay at the top of the league and will rely on the guys DeAndre Jordan and Kris Middleton among other to challenge for the title this year. Outside of 3PM NE has a solid roster across the board which will be a strength for them going into the stretch run.
For Rest of the Season : Try to find some 3 point shooting without sacrificing anything from the other CATs. Focus on getting the ship righted from this losing streak and getting ready for the playoffs as he has a healthy lead in the division already and the other 3 teams in his division are struggling this year
Buyer/Seller : Buyer for 3PM
Predicted Finish : Lose in the Finals
4. Cincinnati Sabercats (45-36) :
Overview : The Sabercats have had nothing but close matchups all season with all the matchups being decided by a final of 6-3 or 5-4, so with a flip of a coin and a couple stats going differently his season could be swung one way or another, but as it stands he sits on top of his division by 6.5 games and looks poised to make the playoffs this year, his team led by the young superstar Ben Simmons and surrounded by key guys like D'Angelo Russell, Capela, Whiteside, and Aaron Gordon. His team is only top 3 in two categories and in the top half in only one more. He will need to find answers for that to be competitive in the playoffs
For Rest of the Season : Figure out the necessary moves to make to improve his team so he can compete in the playoffs and try to win bigger than 5-4 or 6-3.
Buyer/Seller : Buyer
Predicted Finish : Lose in Wild Card Round
5. Teen Wolf (47-32-2) :
Overview : Currently the top WC teams and has a better record than 2 of the WC teams currently, but unfortunately sits 10.5 games back of the Breakers in his division. His team is one of the lowest FG% in the league, but is top 5 in FT% and 3PM, and is top 3 in 3 other CATs, and top half in everything else other than TOs. With guys like Embiid, Draymond he has a solid roster with key guys around them making them a good bet to make a run down the stretch.
For Rest of the Season : Keep the solid work going and hold onto the top WC spot, while also trying to catch Breakers for the division if possible. To do so look to cut the TOs down and raise FG%.
Buyer/Seller : Buyer
Predicted Finish : Lose in 2nd round
6. Crystal River Pirates (42-38-1) :
Overview : The Pirates have had literally an up and down trading a win for a loss every week, but even doing that they find themselves over .500 and in the second wild card spot currently. At the moment his team is only in the top half in FG%, REB, BLK, and points. His team is led by young stud Tatum, hot shooting Beal, Wiggins and Adams and backed by a couple other role players putting him where he is at.
For Rest of the Season : Try to break the streak of losing a week immediately following a win, and look to improve in the areas that I pointed out that were not in good shape.
Buyer/Seller : Buyer
Predicted Finish : 8th in DBBL
7. Green Jays (42-39) :
Overview : The Green Jays like the Supersonics got off to a slow start losing their first three weeks of the season. After the bad start he has rattled off 6 straight wins and is in the thick of the playoff race, sitting just behind the Pirates for the last WC spot. Being led by the Greek Freak, and Kemba has put him in this spot, the depth of Teague, Chandler, Gordon, Ariza, and Favors is one of the reasons he should make a run at the WC spot and be a threat to the playoff teams down the stretch.
For Rest of the Season : Try to find a way to get into the playoffs, by getting past the Pirates or Teen Wolf for a WC spot, and improve the roster across the board
Buyer/Seller : Buyer
Predicted Finish : Lose in Wild Card Round
8. Team Blouses (41-40) :
Overview : Blouses are another team that have had an up and down season to this point, and that has put them 1 game over .500 and just outside the WC spot. Can The Beard and Gobert lead this team into the playoffs with guys like Ingles, Warren, and Beverley helping them? His team is top half of the league in FG%, STLs, and TOs. The rest of the CATs he is in the bottom half of the league currently.
For Rest of the Season : Play out a few more weeks to see if he can make a run at the playoffs, if not start looking to see who he can move to build for next year.
Buyer/Seller : Seller of non core guys
Predicted Finish : 9th in DBBL
9. Bullet Club (37-41-1) :
Overview : Bullet Club had a rough start to the season, but has been turning it around lately, winning the last three weeks and inching closer to the .500 mark. Sitting just outside the playoff race, can his roster led by Donovan Mitchell, CP3, Hayward, Kuzma, Ayton, and McCollum make a run at the playoffs at this point? His team is top half of the league in FT%, 3PM, STL, and TOs.
For Rest of the Season : This team is in an interesting spot, with the roster he has he should be able to make noise in the playoffs, if he decides to buy in, but also can get a lot of assets moving forward if he decides to sell. It is truly up to Eric to decide which direction he wants to go for this season.
Buyer/Seller : Buyer
Predicted Finish : 7th in DBBL
10. The Game (38-42-1) :
Overview : The Game have outperformed the spot I predicted them to be in, to this point, they started out slow losing 5 of their first 6 matchups, but have won 2 of the last three and one of those wins was 7-2 which sees them just under .500 and still just outside the playoff picture. Can Mike Conley, Devin Booker, Luka Doncic, and Zach LaVine lead this team into the playoff race, or will they all cool off and see The Game struggle the second half of the season like they did the first 6 weeks.
For Rest of the Season : Look to build on the couple wins over the last three weeks and see if they can make a run at the WC spot, but if that fails to happen look to move on from non-core guys and start building for the future
Buyer/Seller : Seller
Predicted Finish : 12th in DBBL
11. South Beach Savages (37-42-2) :
Overview : The Savages have not had the season I thought they would, sitting in 11th place in the league currently. The struggles probably stem down from Westbrook currently being only the 23rd ranked PG in the league, and Ingram being out injured and struggling a little this season leaving a lot of work for Griffin and Marc Gasol to carry to this point. They are in the top half of the league in about half the CATs so sitting in 11th is an oddity to me, but close results where all but 3 have been decided by 1 CAT is a big tell as to why they are under .500 and struggling to this point
For Rest of the Season : Play it out wait for Cousins and Ingram to get healthy and hope Westbrook gets things figured out and can get back into the top 10 among PGs and play to catch the Sabercats for the division
Buyer/Seller : Seller
Predicted Finish : 11th in DBBL
12. Akron Hammers (38-43) :
Overview : So I obviously miss judged my team as I thought I would be no worse than 5th, but it has not gone as planned, struggling most of the season outside of a couple strong weeks being well out weighed by the down weeks, leading to 12th in the league and 5 games under .500 to this point. Despite having guys like LeBron, Klay, Dwight Howard, and Sabonis, along with Lou Williams, Thad Young, DJ Augustin, to help they have not put together back to back wins yet. Also being in the top half of the league in more CATs than not makes this season a little more puzzling.
For Rest of the Season : Try to string some wins together and get back into the thick of the WC race, and if they can do that find a couple pieces to help them in the chase for a WC spot. On the flip side if they can't figure out how to get a win streak going start to look for deals for non-core players.
Buyer/Seller : Seller
Predicted Finish : 10th in DBBL
13. Boston Ballers (32-46-3) :
Overview : The Ballers are one of 4 teams that are well over 10 games under .500 on the season to this point and start the clear cut bottom 4 and definite sellers in the league. It just has not gone well for the Ballers this season. To this point in the season they have gone on three week streaks so far losing their first 3 weeks, then winning their next 3, following that with another 3 losses in a row. If Jokic, Drummond, Sexton, Dunn, and Jaren Jackson can play well over the back half of the season, the Ballers could make a run at .500 to end the season.
For Rest of the Season : Don't bank on getting to .500 start looking to shop guys and build for next year as losing 6 of 9 weeks will not result in a good season or one that will put them in the playoff race.
Buyer/Seller : Seller
Predicted Finish : 13th in DBBL
14. SLO Buckets : (31-49-1) :
Overview : After winning their first two weeks, the season has fallen off a cliff for SLO Buckets losing 7 straight and only 1 of those losses was by 1 CAT, the rest were by 2, 3, or 5 which has equaled being 18 games under .500 half way through the season. Guys like Kawhi, Damian Lilliard, and Bledsoe have not been able to keep this team from falling way behind in the league, add the injury to KLove ,who has missed a significant amount of time this season, as a reason to this teams struggles. This team is at or near the bottom of the league in most CATs, the only one he isn't is in TOs where he is 2nd to DMHO.
For Rest of the Season : Figure out who the non-core guys are and look to find the best possible trades for them and start to acquire picks and future assets to move forward with and build around
Buyer/Seller : Seller
Predicted Finish : 14th in DBBL
15. Long Island Knicks (27-53-1) :
Overview : The Knicks have only managed one win this season, and that came all the way back in week 3 over the Ballers. The results have left his team 26 games under .500 on the season and in a race with DMHO for last place and the top spot in the lottery and the top FA pick in the offseason. With guys like Oladipo and Valanciunas both missing and Porzingis not coming back from injury yet has seen the Knicks not have enough talent to be competitive this year.
For Rest of the Season : Look to see who you can move on from and sell guys that are not in the plan moving forward.
Buyer/Seller : Seller
Predicted Finish : 15th in DBBL
16. DMHO Lab Rats (27-54) :
Overview : DMHO have had a rough season so far, just picking up their first winning week 2 weeks ago. Most other weeks it has been a big loss for DMHO putting them 27 games under .500 and in last place in the league. Steph Curry being out for some time did not help things, as the rest of the roster led by Aldridge could not fill in for Curry when he was gone. He actually leads the league in FG% and TOs, but is bottom half or bottom 3 in the rest of the CATs.
For Rest of the Season : Play for the top lottery spot and the top FA pick, and look to trade any guy he does not think will help him next season.
Buyer/Seller : Seller
Predicted Finish : 16th in DBBL
In the other league where I do this I also mention who the best FAB guy was. Since we do that here I will carry that over to this league as well
